About 3,000 national and international tourists visited Colca Valley the past weekend amid Arequipa anniversary celebrations, State-run Colca Valley Autonomous Authority (Autocolca) informed.

Autocolca Manager Jorge Condori expressed satisfaction with the three-day figures, which show people’s interest in knowing "one of the most important tourist sites in the region."

“Locals used the opportunity to head into the said area as they were exempt from the tourist ticket fee,” Condori stated.

Colca has welcomed up to 1360 Arequipa inhabitants over the three days of celebration. Most of them chose to visit the Cruz del Condor viewpoint, colonial-style churches, archaeological sites, and other natural attractions the Valley has to offer.

Compared to previous years, the tourist site has been well attended this time, which was a result of Autocolca promotion activities at the national and regional level.

According to Condori, Arequipa population will continue to enjoy the tourist ticket fee exemption every weekend until the end of the year.

Colca Valley is located four hours from the city of Arequipa, and there is a paved road leading to such natural site.
