Chinese President Xi Jinping will head to Peru next year on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum’s summit in Lima, Peruvian Ambassador to Beijing Juan Carlos Capuñay announced.

The annual APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting will take place in the Peruvian capital in November next year.

Xi Jinping will join other important leaders at this major economic bloc, which groups the world's most dynamic economies.

In statements to Andina news agency, the Ambassador noted that Peru-China bilateral relations are at their best just before the two nations mark 50 years of diplomatic relations.

Three exchange visits have taken place in the past three years, including two high level visits in 2013 and 2014 by President Ollanta Humala to China, and one by Prime Minister Li Keqiang to Peru in May this year.

Chinese companies are particularly keen to invest in infrastructure projects, a field in Peru where there is still so much to do.

Capuñay recalled that the over 6000 km long Transcontinental Railway megaproject –linking Brazil’s Atlantic coastline of with the Pacific Ocean in Peru– is already under review.

Besides providing a development opportunity for inhabitants and communities in Peru throughout its route by integrating them to the national economy, the Transcontinental Railway will be a privileged platform to transport local products with a view to exporting them abroad.
