The Premier of the People's Republic of China, Li Keqiang, hopes his official visit to Peru will bring investment cooperation between the two countries to a higher level, based on existing relations.

Such cooperation will be strengthened in particular areas of transportation, electricity, infrastructure, as well as in equipment manufacturing areas, petrochemical industry, metallurgy, construction materials and processing of agricultural, forest-based and aquatic products, in order to combine productive capacity of both nations.

In an article published in El Peruano official daily, Li indicated the two countries' economies are strongly complementary to each other, which holds tremendous cooperation potential.

His visit seeks to “connect the two countries' development strategies, turn the potential into the driving force and transform the good momentum into kinetic energy, making perspectives a reality.”

He also said economic and trade exchanges between the two countries are expected to be expanded based on mutual respect and reciprocal benefit.

“The Chinese side is willing to increase imports of agricultural and fishing products, as well as Peruvian specialties with high added value that meet the demands of the Chinese market in such a way that the two markets can complement each other and the life of two nations can be enriched,” he stated.

In the last years, the development of Chinese-Peruvian ties has embarked into a fast-track approach.

Li recalled the bilateral trade volume has doubled and Chinese investment in Peru has grown tenfold since the signing to the free trade agreement in 2009.

“Practical cooperation has been extended to various fields from energy and mining to finance, electricity, processing and manufacturing, among others,” he said.

The high-ranking official believes it is time to bring the Chinese-Peruvian cooperation up to date by facing the same tasks, that is, by developing the economy and improving the well-being of the population.

His visit is expected to increase the mutual understanding of both populations. Li said he is willing to work with Peruvian leaders to further harmonize their positions on important global issues such as the financial system reform, the climate change, and the post-2015 development agenda, among others.

Peru is a brotherly nation to China; it was one of the first countries in Latin America to receive Chinese immigrants, reach diplomatic relations with the new China and embark on an economic, trade exchange.

“Dear friends, El Condor Pasa (The Condor Passes), a world renowned musical piece, evidences the Peruvian people spirit to move forward courageously amid difficulties and challenges, which impersonates the spirit, energy, and wisdom we use to strengthen traditional friendship and strategic cooperation,” he pointed out.
