The Peoples’ Republic of China will provide free-of-charge military assistance to Peru for the 2014 budget period, as was established through an agreement signed by both nations’ Defense Ministries.
The covenant was inked in Lima by Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi (Peru) and China’s Ambassador to Peru Huang Minhui, who represented the Ministry of National Defense of the People’s Republic of China.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Peru, the agreement establishes China’s commitment to providing free-of-charge military assistance to the South American country worth up to about US$5 million.
In this sense, Peruvian government officials will have to propose the Chinese party the equipment and materials, drawing the sector’s interest, in order to jointly assess the final content of the donation.
Among the Chinese equipment that could be donated are excavators and cisterns. According to the Ministry, another option would be surgical units, X-ray machines, ambulances or other medical materials aimed at mobile hospitals.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministerial Office. It was also attended by the Peruvian Deputy Minister of Resources for the Defense, Julio Enrique de La Puente, and Chinese Embassy’s Political Counselor in Lima, Zhang Yanhui.
