After several days of intense work, the Carretera Central (Central Highway) has reopened to traffic today at early morning hours (02:00 local time/07:00 GMT), Chosica’s Mayor Luis Bueno Quino informed.

The Chosica-to-Lima lane opened first and the same happened to the Lima-to Chosica path at 6:00 a.m., enabling long-distance buses to run again.

Bueno Quino thanked the Central Government, particularly the Ministry of Transport and Communications, for the support his community has received over the past few days.

He also hailed President Humala’s announcement to undergo the relocation process of at least 200 families living in high risk areas of Chosica (the affected area).

We hope to achieve it [the relocation] this time, now that we have the government’s support, and through the Techo Propio (Own Roof) program as well.
