Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and the Canada-based University of Alberta have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) establishing mutual collaboration to promote technological development and innovation in mining projects in Peru.

The document will encourage Peruvian universities to conduct research focused on improving the country mining sector efficiency and environmental sustainable development in order to benefit the community.

To this end, MEM will seek engagement with such universities, whereas the University of Alberta will cooperate in the development of research projects. The Canadian institution shall advise project members by boosting postgraduate education in mining.

The document was signed at MEM’s headquarters by Mines Vice Minister Guillermo Shinno Huamani and University of Alberta Vice President Phyllis Clark. The said memorandum will last for three years and shall be renewed upon mutual consent of the parties.
