Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), part of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, the Canadian trade mission will visit Lima, Peru on August 13-15.
The delegation will arrive in Lima from Bogota, where they will hold meetings to explore business opportunities as well.
After their arrival on August 13, delegates will be provided with an economic, sector and political overview of Peru by Embassy officials; they will review the program and highlight important logistical details.
A plenary session is scheduled for the morning of Thursday, August 14, and will be attended by the trade mission delegates and local stakeholders.
After that, they will be joining sector sessions on extractives, defense and security
Delegates will hear from key local sector experts and Canadian organizations may have an opportunity to give a short presentation.
On August 15, delegates will arrange their own follow-up meetings or have pre-arranged B2B meetings with local stakeholders.
According to the release issued by TCS, Peru is priority country under the Global Markets Action Plan (GMAP) and has made great strides in macroeconomic management and has enjoyed solid growth for over a decade.
It also highlights its 5.0% growth in 2013 and its projected expansion of 5.5% in 2014, with investment in the extractive sector and strong domestic demand continuing to be the main drivers of rapid economic expansion.
It is worth mentioning that Peru is Canada’s second largest bilateral trading partner in South and Central America, and the third largest destination for Canadian direct investment in the same area.
Moreover, Canadian investment stock in Peru totalled $8.1 billion at the end of 2013 and the Canada-Peru free trade, labor cooperation and environment agreements have enhanced the trade relationship.
Sector-focused Canada trade missions are one of the many ways the government of Canada supports Canadian companies, particularly small-and-medium enterprises, to explore and succeed in foreign markets.
