Peru-based consortium Camisea, which is producing natural gas from the Andean nation's largest fields, said Monday it paid US$ 1.30 billion to the government in 2013, a 12.11 percent year-on-year increase.
The government of Cuzco region, where the gas fields are located and the municipalities adjacent to the deposits received $652.2million, or approximately 50 percent of the total royalties in 2013
Pluspetrol Peru, which leads Camisea Consortium, said that royalties amounted to US$110.1 million in December, 2013.
Since the project started in 2004, Peru-based consortium Camisea has paid US$6.19 billion in royalties to Peru.
The Camisea fields hold some of Latin America's largest natural gas reserves. Camisea's proven reserves total some 8.7 trillion cubic feet.
The Camisea consortium is made up of Spain's Repsol, Argentina's Pluspetrol and Tecpetrol, U.S.-based Hunt Oil, South Korea's SK Energy and Algeria's Sonatrach.
