Peru can access capitals for infrastructure projects in more favorable conditions given its macroeconomic performance, Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) Executive President Enrique Garcia affirmed today.

"Peru has a good credit rating and a highly favorable track record, so it's one of the countries with access in very good conditions," he underscored.

Likewise, he highlighted Peru posts the region's "lowest risk perception." This, at a time when Latin America goes through an economic slowdown as result of the global context.

"However, Peru is one of the countries keeping a reasonable [growth] rhythm and positive outlooks, thanks to the action line it has followed through its various governments over the past 20 years," he said.

Rodriguez also noted CAF has been approving loans to Peru at an annual average of US$2.0 - US$2.2 billion.

"A significant part of this sum is related to our lines of credit with banks, contingent lines with the government, as well as projects in all sectors," he explained.

On the other hand, he described President Kuczynski's infrastructure investment policy, which can take place through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), as absolutely necessary.

"Absolutely. The countries' need to increase infrastructure investment is one of CAF's most important themes. This requires public-private actions, and CAF has vast experience in this area," he pointed out.

In this sense, the bank CEO noted his financial institution has designed products to finance major infrastructure projects in all sectors, such as Lima's Metro Lines and others.

"We are the main multilateral institution financing infrastructure in Latin America, and we've designed highly interesting special fund products for mobilization of internal savings and pension funds, as well as to attract internal capital," he said.

Education

The CAF Executive Director took part in the presentation of the Economy and Development Report (RED) 2016 "More Skills for Life and Work."

"I think this report shows that many of Peru's figures are better than a lot of other Latin American countries," he underlined.

Nevertheless, the document also shows the major challenge faced by the entire Latin American region, including Peru, to carry out a much more comprehensive work.

"This should not only take place at schools; part of this should happen in families and go on at work, within a context where people develop, as well as in future activities. I believe this is highly relevant," he remarked.
