Top level delegations from twenty Arab countries will be participating in the Third Summit of South American-Arab Countries (ASPA), scheduled for October 1-2 in Lima.

Peru’s Deputy Foreign Minister Jose Beraun Aranibar said "there is the greatest willingness to attend the event because all countries share a common interest in strengthening cooperation, peace and development."

"We visited more than half of the Arab nations and they all have confirmed their participation at the highest level," Beraun said at a press conference in Lima on Friday.

Beraun recalled that many South American presidents have also confirmed their attendance, as well as the king of Morroco, the emir of Qatar, the presidents of Lebanon and Palestine and the prime minister of Kuwait, among others.

The deputy minister said that Syria will not attend the summit, as it has been suspended from the Arab League.

He went on to announce that the ASPA organizing committee will take part in the 16th Non-Aligned Movement Summit, on August 30-31 in Iran, to ensure the presence of other nations that have yet to confirm their participation in the meeting in Peru.
