U.S. Ambassador Brian A. Nichols affirmed the United States Department of Justice works closely with Peru's Public Ministry on the case of former President Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006).

He commented on statements by Judiciary Branch Chairman Duberli Rodriguez, who regretted the slow pace of the U.S. justice system concerning Public Ministry's request to arrest Toledo.

"I am a big fan of Duberli Rodriguez and we are committed to working with the Judiciary Branch and Public Prosecutor's Office in Peru, and the Department of Justice is closely involved in the case," the U.S. diplomat told the press.

Ambassador Nichols claimed they stand shoulder to shoulder with Attorney General Pablo Sanchez and Prosecutor Hamilton Castro, who leads the Odebrecht case investigation.

Nichols stressed that both his country and Peru are governed under a Constitution, so procedures must be followed when dealing out justice.
