Lima, Aug. 10.
Some 40 national and international buyers, plus 70 Peruvian exporters are arriving in Moyobamba and Tarapoto cities today (10 August) for Expo Amazonica 2017 — Peru's top Amazon rainforest produce trade event.

Even though coffee and cocoa are Peruvian Amazon's flagship products, many other exotic foods can get a chance on foreign markets like sacha inchi (a.k.a. Inca peanut), camu camu berries, aguaje, hearts of palm, cocona and star fruit.

Expo Amazonica 2017 Fair will serve as an international showcase for agricultural products, mainly superfoods, thus drawing the attention of foreign buyers.

As stated by Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros, Expo Amazonica seeks to foster export products, tourist spots and investments.

"It is so important that President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski is expected to attend, too," he commented.

Ferreyros believes this will be a great opportunity to position Peruvian superfoods, as the fair attracts international buyers who will see first-hand the exotic Amazon products, thus introducing greater dynamism into the area.

Coffee and cocoa are the main agro-exports, although the region exports a great deal of fruits with greater value-added potential.

Peruvian Amazon superfoods include sacha inchi, camu camu berries, aguaje, unguragui, copoazu, hearts of palm, azai, cocona, star fruit, Amazon chili peppers, stevia, paiche and gamitana.

Slated to be held on August 10-13, Expo Amazonica 2017 is deemed as a key business platform for San Martin, Loreto, Amazonas, Ucayali, Madre de Dios and Huanuco regions.

"We have launched a new exhibit format that promotes exports, tourism, investments and culture, and that includes sectoral roundtables to improve regional competitiveness, mainly in San Martin," Ferreyros added.
