The economic growth helps reduce poverty in a country, but redistributive policies are required to protect the most vulnerable sectors and are particularly necessary in the context of economic slowdown affecting the region, pointed out Economy and Finance Minister Alonso Segura.

He said poverty rates in Latin America stopped falling since 2012, but this has not been the case in Peru.

“The Peruvian economy is still growing above the regional average and we have taken an early decision to deploy social programs,” he told RPP.

This year Peru will expand above the average for Latin America, estimated at 1%, according to IMF, and will see the highest growth rate among member states of the Pacific Alliance at 3.8%; Peruvian authorities forecast a more than 4% increase for 2015.

On the other hand, Segura said the projects awarded via public-private partnership worth more than US$ 20 billion are currently in the execution stage and will support Peru’s economic growth.
