Peruvian exports to Indonesia rose by 4.2 percent in 2013 to US$105.4 million, according to the Andean country's exporter association Adex.
Grapes were the leading fresh produce export, with asparagus, avocados, mangoes, guavas and some vegetable lines also shipped to the Asian country, Fruitnet.com reported.
Adex’s economic studies department said with 250m inhabitants and an economy expected to grow by around 6 per cent this year, Indonesia offers potential for a number of other Peruvian exports, including mandarins. In 2012, the two countries agreed to bilateral trade discussions with a view to establishing a free trade agreement.
Peru has indicated that it will carry out more trade missions in 2014, utilising the network of 17 commercial offices it has established to carve out new export opportunities for its products.
More than half of the country’s exports are currently destined for the US, the European Union and China.
