Peruvian President Ollanta Humala today announced that 95% of urban population will have access to potable water, while such service will have reached 75% of the rural sector by the end of his government.

As he addressed the nation, he said his administration has managed to provide at least two out of three homes with potable water services.

“By the end of my government, 95% of the urban population and 75% of the rural population will have access to potable water,” the Head of State announced at the Congress of the Republic.

The Peruvian leader revealed that S/.7.34 billion (about US$2.3 billion) was invested in the water and sanitation sector to fund 1,707 projects at the national level.

“We have brought water and sanitation to more than 7,500,000 Peruvians, thanks to these investments,” he added.
