Eighty-five percent of Lima citizens believe the country will continue to experience economic growth in the following years, and this optimism responds to a positive attitude about their future economic situation, Arellano Marketing General Manager Rolando Arellano reported.

Despite being worried about the upcoming presidential elections, 70% of locals assured their salary has increased or remained unchanged compared to last year.

Change in Attitude

“A change has been observed in their attitude toward consumption and purchase intention, which has grown considerably,” he said.

Additionally, he went on to add that even though 55% of locals are worried about the next presidential elections, their statements reveal that this concern will not affect the economy, because 85% of them think it will remain unchanged or improve.

Opportunities to Grow

“There are some [opportunities to grow] in spite of this situation. We have to shake off the passive attitude when dealing with problems […],” he continued.

Arellano said companies believe this is a good moment to purchase, as evidenced by the Nielsen Global Survey of Consumer Confidence & Spending Intentions in Latin America, in the first quarter of 2015.
