  • Lima, Apr. 14 (ANDINA).- Former US president, Jimmy Carter, will visit Peru by the end of this month to hold a series of activities, including a meeting with the head of state Alan García, reported the Carter Center.

The NGO reported the former U.S. president will receive a human rights award from the ombudsman's office.

Furthermore, he will participate in the Carter Center's Americas Conference on the Right of Access to Information, an event organized in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS), the Andean Judicial Commission, and the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas.

The Americas regional conference represents continuation of the Global Conference on the Right to Information held in Atlanta in February, 2008.

This conference will be held in Lima from April 28 to 30, and will be attended by over 100 representatives of governments, civil society, media, and academia from 17 countries.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter will start his visit to Latin America on April 27 and will run until May 4. During his trip, Carter will also visit Ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil to assess Carter Center projects in the region.
