14:09 Peru aims for social policy based on production, not compensations

Lima, Oct. 21 (ANDINA). Peruvian President Ollanta Humala on Friday urged to establish a social policy of "second generation," based on production and not on compensations, and said that the new Ministry of Development and Inclusion (Midis) will be a "step forward" to cut poverty.

"Today we want to focus on a single approach, a single social policy that carries out social programs and transforms them. A policy of second generation, in which the main approach is to take the population out of poverty and give them opportunities, not compensations.”

After swearing in the head of Midis, Carolina Trivelli, Humala explained that having only one productive social approach will help to take a bunch of Peruvians out of poverty in a specific period of time and end the belief that poverty is a "disease or genetic virus."

The head of State mentioned that no-one in the country should die in poverty or living permanently on social programs.

President Humala went on to add that the new Ministry of Social Development and Inclusion (Midis) must create the opportunity for thousands of people to leave poverty behind through a productive social policy.
