17:28 Teofilo Cubillas backs Sergio Markarian as potential Peru coach
Lima, Apr. 28 (ANDINA). Peruvian football legend Teofilo “Nene” Cubillas has backed Uruguayan Sergio Markarian to become Peru's next head coach looking ahead to the 2011 Copa America and the 2014 South American World Cup qualifiers.

“Sergio is a good coach, he has all what it takes to assume the coaching role; he should have done it long time ago. I hope he says yes,” Cubillas said.

"El Nene" called on Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) officials not to waste more time and name the replacement for Jose Guillermo "Chemo" Del Solar.

“We can’t waste more time, they have to name the new coach so he can start evaluating the Peruvian football and decide on how to manage the team and use the players in the national team,” Cubillas added.

Cubillas remarked that among the many potential coaches, Markarian is one of the few who knows the Peruvian players.

Markarian, who coaches Uruguayan club Danubio, has been offered the Peruvian coaching position on numerous occasions, but up until now, each time he has rejected the possibility.
