Rossel is the first Peruvian male to win a world boxing title and this was the first time Peru hosted a male boxing world title match.
“This is for Peru, all of Peru are champion,” Rossel was quoted as saying by fightnews.com. “I waited all my life this night.”
Scores were 118-110, 115-113, 116-112.
WBA female super featherweight beltholder Kina Malpartida was the country’s first boxing world champion.
In other action, local undefeated jr middleweight David Zegarra (18-0, 14 KOs) stopped Brazilian Juciel Lima Nascimento (22-13-1, 15 KOs) in round eleven, and undefeated Peruvian featherweight Carlos Zambrano (14-0, 8 KOs) won by third round TKO over Ecuadorian Willy Condori. Zambrano trains in North Bergen, New Jersey.
