The National Service of Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp) said Tuesday that the award was in recognition of the reserve's environmental education activities for schools in five ditricts of Puno.
These districts are part of the buffer zone of the protected area and the activities were held from April to November last year.
Lake Titicaca sits 3 810 m above sea level and is situated between Peru to the west and Bolivia to the east. Peruvian part is located in Puno department, in Puno and Huancane provinces.
The Local Environmental Citizenship Award seeks to identify, recognize and highlight innovative projects that focus on preserving and sustaining the environment.
