‘January 27’ officially becomes Peru's 'Maritime Sovereignty Day'

The Executive Power has officially declared ‘January 27’ the Maritime Sovereignty Day to commemorate The Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ) verdict, which concluded the maritime dispute between Peru and Chile.

The Bill 30301 was approved by the Permanente Commission of Congress on January 28.

One of the articles decrees the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in collaboration with the Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministries will perform a ceremony every ‘January 27’ in order to commemorate this relevant date for Peruvians.

The document has been approved and signed by President Ollanta Humala; the head of the Council of Ministers Ana Jara; the President of Congress, Ana María Solórzano; and second Vice President of the Congress, Norman Lewis.
