The World Bank Group (WBG) sees the current Peruvian government's first 100 days in office with high optimism due to efforts currently being undertaken, WBG Director for Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela Alberto Rodriguez affirmed on Thursday.
"For the time being, we regard it [the first 100 days] with a lot of optimism. We see a government truly determined to tackle major issues," he said.
The WBG officer highlighted the emphasis placed by President Kuczynski's administration on economic formalization, water, sanitation and health as main priorities.
"We see the Government seeks to reduce territorial gaps, as well as to take growth policies to regions and intermediate cities to connect them with the rest of Peru. That's a relevant effort," he underlined.
Dr. Rodriguez also stressed the Executive's work on unblocking major investment projects, which will have an impact on GDP growth.
"The Economy Ministry is leading a major effort to unblock halted large-scale projects," he pointed out.
The Colombian specialist added Peru has about six such projects requiring assessment, and WBG hopes the country materializes said unblocking.
Fight against corruption
On other matters, the WBG regional director noted the multilateral organization has been working with Peru's current government on designing strategies to reinforce anti-corruption policies.
"This issue requires broad discussion, since global and hence regional corruption is a major concern," he said.
In this respect, he mentioned the State's need to reach out to citizens. "This government fully intends to achieve it; that's why this was placed among its goals," he assured.
Remarks were made following Rodriguez participation in the Education and Financial Inclusion Forum organized by Peruvian Banks Association (Asbanc).
