Promperu Export Director Luis Torres affirmed the United States is Peru's largest trading partner in terms of value-added agro-exports, textiles and garments.

"The United States is Peru's second biggest trading partner after China, but the main trading country in terms of value-added agro-exports, textiles and garments," he said.

Relevant trip

In this context, he deemed as relevant the trip of President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to the United States, because it enhances the economic-trade ties with such strategic partner.

Last week, Peruvian Congress authorized President Kuczynski's 23-27 February trip to the United States, where he is expected to hold an audience with U.S. counterpart Donald Trump.

Among the main Peruvian agro-exports to the United States are asparagus, mangoes, grapes, avocados, blueberries, and pomegranates, Torres was quoted as saying by Andina news agency.

Top export product

"Asparagus is the most exported product to the United States, and hot peppers are the big bet, as we produce 50 out of 70 existing types," said Export Director at Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (Promperu).

It should be said the total value of Peruvian shipments to the North American nation saw a 23% expansion last year compared to 2015, driven by increased traditional sales to that country (54.5%), according to Promperu data.
