The United States ambassador in Lima, Bryan A. Nichols, congratulated Peru’s National Police for seizing a record of 6.5 tonnes of cocaine found at a building site in Trujillo, in northern La Libertad region.

Following a meeting with President of Peru’s Congress, Ana Maria Solorzano, the diplomat hailed the largest seizure of cocaine ever made in the Andean nation which was carried out on Aug. 27 at a building in the coastal town of Huanchaco, in Trujillo's west suburbs.

“This is a landmark achievement. I sent my congratulations to the Peruvian National Police,” he said, adding “To seize nearly seven tons of drugs represents a breakthrough in the fight against the scourge of drug trafficking”.

The raid came as part of the most productive weeks of antidrug operations conducted by Peru’s narcotic police officers in its history with the support of training and equipment delivered by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Likewise, Mr. Nichols considered that the war on drugs is a shared responsibility. "In which the United States always will be fighting shoulder to shoulder with the people of Peru".
