The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will publish soon a series of standards aimed at facilitating the entry of Peruvian agricultural products to the American market, Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) announced Tuesday.

To this end, Mincetur's head, Magali Silva has recently met with Deputy Secretary of the USDA, Michael Scuse, who was accompanied by officials from the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).

During the meeting, Silva outlined the specifications required for the entry of Peruvian agricultural products -such as fresh peppers, mango, papaya, tomato and cherimoya- into the U.S. market.

Likewise, the Peruvian minister and the USDA's Deputy Secretary discussed the possibility of improving sanitation procedures for the entry of fresh green asparagus and citrus.

In the coming weeks, officials from Peru’s Mincetur and the Agriculture Ministry will hold a technical meeting with the health authorities from the United States in Lima.

It is worth noting that the top government official has held a meeting with the Ambassador of the United States in Peru, Michael Froman, in order to exchange views on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations.
