United States Ambassador to Lima Brian A. Nichols announced an initial US$525,000 contribution for water and sanitation works in affected communities identified by the Peruvian Government.
The aid adds to the US$20 million financing provided by the U.S. Southern Command Humanitarian Assistance Program for the 13 Regional Emergency Operations Centers (COERs) across the country.
"We are working side by side with Peru in the face of this humanitarian emergency situation. Peru is not alone," the diplomat said.
"We express our solidarity to the people and the Government of Peru. We are committed to cooperating in emergency response efforts and the recovery of Peru," he added.
Support by the North American nation also includes emergency response specialists.
"A team of seven experts —who recently landed from the U.S.— is already on site. They are already supporting National Emergency Operation Centers [COENs] in Lima, Piura and Chiclayo, and some of them are traveling to Huarmey and Trujillo," he noted.
