U.S. Ambassador to Lima Brian A. Nichols was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Sun —the highest State distinction bestowed by Peru.

The nation's top decoration was presented by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, who thanked Nichols for his dedicated diplomatic work in the Andean nation.

The award ceremony took place at the Government Palace's Golden Hall in the capital city, Lima.

In his presentation speech, the statesman emphasized the diplomat's enthusiasm to enhance the existing ties between Peru and the United States.

"It is a pleasure to extend our appreciation for this most dedicated work in Peru, and for such a successful, enthusiastic, always positive and, of course, victorious endeavor […] We remain at action stations in this sometimes turbulent but remediable world," he stated.

According to the Head of State, this farewell ceremony conveys the affection and gratitude for all he's done in Peru.

Nichols, for his part, thanked the decoration and said a number of remarkable achievements were made during his tenure in several areas of cooperation, which resulted, for example, in the Kuczynski-Trump meeting in November last year.

The U.S. envoy did not miss the chance to cheer on the Peruvian soccer team, which is one step closer to qualify for Russia 2018.

"Go Peru, let's get a win on Tuesday," he concluded.
