UN to support Peru's National Plan for Productive Diversification

16:05 | Vienna (Austria), Dec. 01.

The implementation of Peru’s National Plan for Productive Diversification will be supported by United Nations (UN), Production Minister Piero Ghezzi announced.

The National Plan for Productive Diversification seeks to create new expansion engines to diversify and modernize the economy by reducing dependence on raw material exports, while instead boosting productivity and formal job creation aimed to reach sustainable long-term growth.

This initiative is possible thanks to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Programme for Country Partnership.

"Peru is the first Latin American country to join the partnership," the government official said.

"The agreement signing represents the interest in Peruvian government-implemented reforms, particularly in matters related to productive diversification. The UN set-goal is to reach sustainable and inclusive growth," he indicated.

"Peru presents these characteristics [...]," Ghezzi added.

The measure also aims at consolidating productive diversification as a State policy to remain in place over the years to come.

"We have to work on this. Analysts forecast [economic] growth will become more difficult in the years to come. Thus, that's what we have to do," Ghezzi mentioned.
