U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon saluted Peru on the 194th Anniversary of its Independence, which was commemorated on July 28.

Likewise the UN officials highlighted the leadership displayed by Peruvian President Ollanta Humala during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's Conference of the Parties (COP20), held last December in Lima.

On July 28, Ban attended a reception hosted at the residence of Gustavo Meza-Cuadra, Peru Permanent Representative to the U.N.

The gathering saw the participation of diplomats, who represented 200 countries and organizations affiliated with the United Nations.

In a Pisco Sour toasting session, the highest-ranked U.N. official reminded his trips to the South American country and wished prosperity to the Peruvian people.
Mr. Ban also underlined Peruvian contribution to a more sustainable development and its higher commitment to the environment.

On the other hand, the Peruvian representative highlighted the principles which inspire the Peru-driven international actions, such as peace promotion, international security, sustainable development and human rights.
