UK to support Lima 2019 Pan Am Games

Carlos Neuhaus asegura que Perú serán un gran anfitrión en los Juegos Panamericanos Lima 2019

11:06 | Lima, Apr. 27.

Carlos Neuhaus, President of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games Organizing Committee (COPAL), confirmed the United Kingdom will provide technical guidance to Peru for the successful delivery of the major sports event.

The UK Government has committed to providing technical assistance not only for the organization of the Games, but also for the training and preparation of national athletes.

In this sense, Neuhaus affirmed COPAL had begun talks with the UK —known for its proven experience in organizing and delivering successful global sports events— to guarantee the necessary support for such endeavor.

"I'd like to note the [UK-Peru] government-to-government agreement took place under Congress-granted legislative powers," the COPAL head pointed out.

"And it [the agreement] allows us to network with other countries experienced in hosting such major events," he added.

While initially interested in getting Canada's support, the Inca nation ultimately opted for the British offer.

"We negotiated with the Canadian Government, but we chose the United Kingdom because its proposal was more solid, and it will allow us to deliver world-class Games. We will have support at every level," he expressed.

The United Kingdom will also counsel the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) with a view to properly training and preparing its athletes for the Games.
