Joined by a handful of pilgrims, the procession of the image and relics of St. Rose of Lima made its way through the streets of downtown Lima following a mass celebrated earlier today at the Cathedral of Lima.

At 11 a.m. the image was carried in procession around Lima’s main square. After that, it moved through Junin, de la Union, Callao, Camana and Conde de Superunda streets and then headed down Tacna Ave before entering Las Nazarenas monastery.

The procession will make its way back through Tacna Ave, and Callao and Camana streets before the image and relics make their journey home at Santisimo Rosario Basilica.

St. Rose of Lima became the patroness of the Americas — of indigenous people of the Americas, especially of Lima, Peru — and the Philippines on 11 August 1970 by order of Pope Clement X.

Santa Rosa — as she is known to Spanish speakers — was named patroness of the National Police of Peru due to her permanent example of moral integrity. This way, she became a staunch defender of police officers and guardian angel of the institution.
