The Municipality of Lima paid tribute to St. Rose of Lima, the first saint of the Americas, marking the 400th anniversary of her death.
Earlier today, her relics were brought in procession from Santo Domingo Convent to the City Hall reception room. The activity was joined by Lima's Mayor Luis Castañeda Lossio.
Vestiges have been on display for veneration since then, although the exhibit will be open to public until 3:00 PM.
In the morning, remains were honored by Brother Richard Manrique Diaz —prior of Santisimo Rosario Convent— as he celebrated a liturgy in honor of the saint.
Such religious service was the preamble to the tribute ceremony itself, held at about noon.
During the ceremony, Castañeda presented a commemorative plaque to a Catholic Church representative. The act took place in the presence of city councilors, municipal officials and government representatives.
The tribute took place within the context of Pope Francis' upcoming visit to Peru, scheduled for January 18-21 next year.
