A multisectoral committee will define the amount of greenhouse gas Peru will have to stop emitting due to commitments assumed by the international community at COP20.
The commission, to-be approved by the President of Peru Ollanta Humala, will be assisted by a public organization. The participation of the private sector is also guaranteed.
The minister explained the Peruvian proposal will focus on reducing deforestation, which is produced by shifting agriculture performed in the poorest areas. The activity has been considered the main cause of greenhouse gas emission.
As well, Pulgar-Vidal informed that by 2015 the US$ 10.2 billion, collected by the Green Climate Fund, will start being invested in assistance programs for those countries, which are the most vulnerable to climate change.
The minister reminded the efforts undertaken by Peru to organize the COP20, and the “success” obtained in the creation of an agreement draft.
The agreement draft seeks to engage member nations in reducing the emissions of greenhouse gas.
The draft will have to be signed by member nations at the COP21. This will be held next year in Paris.
