Six LatAm leaders and King Juan Carlos to attend Kuczynski’s inauguration

More than 30 countries will send high-ranking delegations to take part in the inauguration ceremony of Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President-elect of Peru, which will see the attendance of Spain's King Juan Carlos I, and six Heads of State and two Vice-Presidents from Latin America, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) informed on Sunday.

Confirmed guests include Presidents Mauricio Macri (Argentina), Juan Manuel Santos (Colombia), Michelle Bachelet (Chile), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), Horacio Cartes (Paraguay) and Enrique Peña Nieto (Mexico).

Spain's King Juan Carlos I and two Vice-Presidents from Central America are also expected to attend the July 28 ceremony along with official delegations from 30 countries and representatives of international organizations, among others.

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman will lead the US. Presidential delegation composed of, among others, Acting Assistant Secretary in the Department of State's Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs Mari Carmen Aponte and, Assistant Secretary of State of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs William R. Brownfield.

Some leaders are planning to arrive the day before the ceremony, and the rest will do so the same day. Presidential aircrafts will land at Air Group 8 military complex based in Callao, next to Jorge Chavez International Airport.

On July 27, Latin American dignitaries and heads of foreign delegations will attend a private dinner hosted by outgoing President Ollanta Humala at the Government Palace.

Other leaders will arrive early in the morning of July 28 to participate in the inauguration session at the Congress in the presence of Peruvian authorities.

After giving his first address to the nation, the newly inaugurated President will head to the presidential palace to offer a luncheon to his guests.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new Cabinet of ministers —led by Fernando Zavala— will take place at 4:40 p.m. at the Government Palace’ courtyard.

The traditional hand-kissing ritual by  diplomatic corps accredited in Lima comes next as part of the official activities on the occasion of the 195th anniversary of Peru’s Independence.

This is the first time state ministers will be sworn in at the palace’ courtyard — the ceremony will be visible from every corner of Lima’s Main Square.
