Brazilian soccer club Sao Paulo announced the extension of midfielder Christian Cueva's contract thru 2022.

The move responds to a Chinese league team's interest in signing the Peruvian star.

Previously, the agreement was set to expire in December 2020. Nonetheless, outstanding performances of the Inca player led to the aforementioned decision.

The new document will also set out an increase in his salary, plus a bonus if chosen the Brazilian tournament's top player.

Announcement was made by club President Carlos Augusto de Barros while launching his reelection bid last Wednesday.

It must be noted Cueva signed a four-year contract with Sao Paulo on June 2, 2016.

The 25-year-old Peruvian athlete has already scored 10 goals defending the club.
