Peru's Production Minister Bruno Giuffra on Wednesday highlighted Super Foods Peru brand —which he currently promotes in Europe— serves as a badge of quality for the country's export offer.

"We've had the opportunity to conduct a highly positive launch, which has had an impact on various European exhibitors and media outlets," the government official expressed.

The Inca nation currently participates in Seafood Expo Global, the world's largest seafood trade fair, taking place in Brussels on April 25-27.

Giuffra also underscored Peru's vast product diversity —marine, Coastal, Highlands and Amazonian— which give its export offer a competitive edge.

"We are a country characterized by its productiveness, a country that offers a solution to the major challenge facing the global population in terms of healthy eating," he pointed out.

In this sense, the Production head assured Super Foods Peru will contribute to the promotion of national products' quality in the global market, thus providing a great boost to national exporters.

On the other hand, he highlighted the popularity of Peruvian seafood such as anchovies, giant squid, shrimps and, especially, scallops.

In this sense, Giuffra noted he had met with Europe's high-ranking sanitation authorities to secure long-term market access for Peruvian scallops.

The minister was joined by Deputy Fishing and Aquaculture Minister Hector Soldi, Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) Exports Director Luis Torres, as well as Communications and Country Image Director Isabella Falco.

Peru fishing exports

Exports of Peruvian fishery goods for direct human consumption reached US$521 million in 2016. Europe led destination markets, accounting for close to 35% of the total.

Most demanded products were giant squid, Peruvian scallops, shrimps and anchovies.
