Peru has a mental health care model which can be useful to other countries, Peru’s President Ollanta Humala affirmed.

"I'd like to tell the international community, through the World Bank Group, that there is a model that can be useful to other countries with the aim of boosting mental health assistance and coverage," the Head of State underlined after signing the supreme decree to enact the Mental Health regulation.

Mr. Humala along with World Bank Chairman Jim Yong Kim, Peruvian Health Minister Anibal Velasquez and First Lady Nadine Heredia visited a Health Center located in Lima's Carabayllo district.

The Head of State took this opportunity to introduce a model created to treat mental disorders.

Within this framework, he explained the Peruvian Government is working on a mental health care model through a social assistance network which is a quite affordable, effective and aimed at providing professional and high-quality treatment that contributes to the patient's recovery.

Thus, the government will allocate funds worth over S/.79 million (US$24.68 million) for Prevention and Mental Health Control this year, the President announced.

Likewise, he expressed his satisfaction over the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to take place in Lima on October 5-12.

"After nearly 50 years, the Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund are held in Peru, a country that has changed a lot and is overcoming problems, facing challenges with responsibility, determination; within a democratic environment […]," the Peruvian President emphasized.
