President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Monday reaffirmed the Peruvian State's commitment to human rights protection, after meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein in Lima.

"The Peruvian State reaffirms its commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, both in Peru and in the region," the Head of State said after the audience held at the Government Palace.

At the event, the President was joined by Second Vice-President Mercedes Araoz and Foreign Affairs Minister Ricardo Luna.

Subsequently, the UN High Commissioner held meeting with Araoz, as well as Ministers Carlos Basombrio (Interior), Enrique Mendoza (Justice and Human Rights), Idel Vexler (Education), Ana Maria Choquehuanca (Women and Vulnerable Populations), and Salvador del Solar (Culture).

Lastly, the also-Prime Minister reiterated the State's strong commitment to human rights protection and promotion in the Inca country.

As is known, Peru was elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council after the vote by the 193-member General Assembly last week.
