President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Tuesday afternoon expressed solidarity with Mexico following a 7.1-magnitude earthquake that struck the North-American country hours ago, and assured Peru is ready to help in whatever is needed.

Posted on Twitter, this message was addressed to Mexico's top official and people.

"President Enrique Peña Nieto, Peru is ready to lend support as needed. My solidarity goes out to the brother people of Mexico," he wrote.

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake shook Mexico City and caused panic on the 32nd anniversary of the devastating 1985 quake.

Tuesday's event led to the collapse of —at least— a dozen buildings in different areas of the Mexican nation's capital.

Previously, Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz expressed sympathy for the Mexican people.
