Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday morning chaired the ceremony marking the 192nd Anniversary of the Battle of Ayacucho.

The event was held in Pampa de la Quinua, where the national army defeated Spanish Royal Forces.

It was Mr. Kuczynski's first presidential activity in the southern region since taking office last July 28.

History

The Battle of Ayacucho was the last major confrontation in the history of Spanish-American Independence process.

The said moment took place on December 9, 1824 in Pampa de la Quinua, near the Andean city of Ayacucho.

During the confrontation, revolutionary armies led by Antonio Jose de Sucre defeated Spanish Royal Forces. Thus, Sucre's victory put an end to the Spanish colonial rule in South America and marked the consolidation of Peruvian Independence previously declared on July 28, 1821.
