Lima, Oct. 3.
Sierra Azul ('Blue Highlands') program —aimed at reforesting Peru's High-Andean areas— will become a State policy to remain sustainable in time, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski announced Tuesday.
Speaking at the 6th Energy Day International Congress, the statesman said the project will involve subsequent governments —just as Chileans did 40 years ago— leading to a dramatic change in several sectors.
"The forestation program in Peru would be used for
purposes, rather than just wood production. The idea is to attract rain and revive the Andes," he assured.
According to the Head of State, energy development must be linked to the environment. That is why he notes the implementation of
Sierra Azul program
, which enshrines afforestation as one of its goals.
