A new presidential tracking poll conducted by Ipsos Peru shows President Ollanta Humala’s approval rating at 27 percent, up two percentage points from last month.

According to the national urban survey of 1,211 people carried out on October 14-17, Peruvian first lady, Nadine Heredia, has seen a surge in her popularity as well, rising to 34 percent as a token of gratitude for the social work she has been carrying out.

Regarding political leaders, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski was placed first with 37 percent of approval, while Keiko Fujimori came second with 35 percent, followed by Alan García (27 percent) and Alejandro Toledo (18 percent).

On the other hand, 55 percent of the 511 people surveyed in Lima think the one year and four month prison sentence given to former justice minister, Aurelio Pastor, for influence peddling is an appropriate punishment for the particular offence.

The aforementioned poll, conducted on 15-17 October, found that 40 percent of the capital city’s population supports the interior minister, Daniel Urresti, in the performance of his duties; whereas 44 percent of respondents don't and the remaining 16 percent opted not to give an opinion on the matter.
