Peruvian President Ollanta Humala visited La Libertad region in northern Peru to open initiatives on water and sanitation and works from the Integral Neighborhood Upgrading Program (PMIB) involving the construction of roads and sidewalks.

Nearly 12,000 people living in the Casa Grande district of the Ascope province will benefit from a total of six infrastructure works.

The total investment amounted to S/.33.8 million (about US$11.1 million), being mostly funded by the Ministry of Housing.

The sum of money was appropriated for improvement and rehabilitation of drinking water and sewage systems in the Miguel Grau, Ocho de Septiembre and Tres de Octubre residential areas.

In addition, a drinking water system will be installed in the Santa Teresita and Mariscal Castilla urbanized zones, and the population center of Mocan will become more accessible with the construction of roads and sidewalks.

Mr. Humala reminded water, sanitation and road works projects for the region have surpassed the S/. 1.00 billion (US$333 million) investment amount.

Likewise, he ratified his government’s commitment to reducing inequality gaps, which still exist in the country in cooperation with regional authorities.

The ceremony took place today in Casa Grande’s main square.
