President Humala to launch gas pipeline in southern Peru

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso will officially launch construction of the Southern Gas Pipeline at a ceremony in the Andean town of Quillabamba, province of La Convención, Cusco.
Accompanied by regional authorities as well as the local puplation, President Humala will chair the launch ceremony at the town's main square, starting at 10.30 am.

The event will also be attended by Peru's Energy and Mines Minister Jorge Merino Tafur and representatives of Kuntur and Petroperu companies, which are in charge of works at the 1,071 km pipeline.

The head of state will also take part in a symbolic unveiling of a tube that will form part of the pipeline, which will carry gas through the departments of the southern macro region (Cusco, Puno, Arequipa and Moquegua).

In addition, President Ollanta Humala will be declared Illustrious Guest of the province of La Convención.
