Peruvian President Ollanta Humala highlighted the responsible forest management, Peru’s contribution to face climate change, as well as “better uses” uses of technology in several economic activities.

When submitting the Peruvian engagement to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres, the President noted Peru's main concern is the pollutant gases emission.

Peru's objective is to become a "country resilient to climate change" and to maintain the leadership in a world policy to turn the world into a "more habitable" planet after having organized last December’s COP20.

The submitted document contains the national contributions related to the mitigation, prevention and adaptation. It is the result of the multisectoral work on water management, agriculture and forest protection.

"Within the framework of the UN General Assembly's 70th session, we wanted to publicly hand over Peru's national contributions against climate change, with the aim of contributing to preventing the world’s temperature increase within the established framework, which is of two degrees Celsius,” the Head of State indicated.

On the other hand, the UNFCCC Executive-Secretary Christiana Figueres said Peru's contributions are received with great joy for having chaired the COP20, which proves its leadership in this difficult task.

Contributions from 80 countries have been received so far, she noted. However, there are few nations from Latin America, Figueres said.

Thus, the Executive Secretary emphasized Peru's leadership on getting ahead with its contributions as a Latin American country and developing economy having the opportunity and responsibility to provide support for the conservation of the planet.

As soon as the document's digital version is submitted, it will be published on the UN web page, Figueres announced.
