Peruvian President Ollanta Humala affirmed the Andean nation had undeniable leadership in the battle against global warming, and said today’s ratification of the Paris Agreement on climate change marks a milestone in history.

“Peru had an undeniable leadership in the global policy to strengthen the fight against global warming. As stated by Manuel [Pulgar, Minister of Environment] this is one of the most important milestones in history, and the largest alliance in the world,” he continued.

He highlighted the international community is united —through the Paris Agreement— against a common enemy: global warming.

“This has helped us fulfill our differentiated responsibilities and resulted in the creation of a new culture,” he underlined.

The Peruvian leader explained the Paris Climate Change Conference would not have achieved such success if it weren't for the COP20 (in Lima), which besides developing previous agreements, secured contributions to the Green Fund.

The task of the more than 165 countries signatories to the Paris Agreement is to create sustained development with changes in habits, such as recycling, to get together against global warming.
