Peruvian President Ollanta Humala today said Peru and Chile set an example of maturity, harmony and integration as they complied and executed the ruling issued by The Hague-based International Court of Justice.

During his speech held at Lima’s main square, he recalled the process at The Hague was a reason to maintain national unity and the same attitude must be applied to every goal set by the Government.

“Once the sentence was unveiled, the country fully exercised its sovereign and exclusive rights over the maritime space the court had recognized as ours; Peru and Chile have become a clear example of maturity, harmony and integration, but, above all, of respect for international law, which ensures lasting peace between peoples,” he pointed out.

Mr. Humala noted the fact that The Hague ruling was executed “in the shortest possible time,” which was recognized by the international community and The Hague-based International Court of Justice itself.

He also affirmed Peru is unavoidably committed to absolutely and conscientiously respect the international treaties it signs, since this is a government that has successfully achieved one of the main national objectives in a pacific but firm way.

The Peruvian leader added that Peru has demonstrated to be reliable in terms of international legal order as it has complied with the aforementioned ruling without conditions and as soon as possible.
