Peruvian President Ollanta Humala today affirmed the image of Peru has changed after five years in office, thanks to the implementation of infrastructure works. He also said his government is leaving a social, education and productive diversification policy.

Speaking from Ancash region, where he took part in the launch of Evitamiento Chimbote road works and the opening of Red Vial 4 to the public, Mr. Humala said “works constitute hope for the people.”

The Peruvian leader affirmed his administration has opened new opportunities and that is what the “great transformation” is all about.

“Bringing dignity to the people; everybody should be the same. The transformation implies new opportunities, more road infrastructure, safe transportation, an Optical Fiber Backbone Network, hospitals, sanitation projects, and that’s why we keep on working,” he assured.

Creating opportunities means designing an education policy whose investment doubles from 13 billion soles (US$3.91 billion) to 24 billion soles (US$7.22 billion) with the aim of increasing teachers’ salaries.

“It also prompts the creation of a National Scholarship Program that currently benefits 100,000 students pursuing studies both in Peru and abroad,” he explained.

Mr. Humala stressed programs like Qali Warma, Beca 18, Pension 65 and Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE), with the latter serving more than 1 million Peruvians.

“We are leaving an organized social policy with financed infrastructure works that the next government will be able to continue […],”he added.
