Transforming the country and bringing modernity to its districts have been goals set by the current administration, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala affirmed on Tuesday.
In this sense, Mr. Humala indicated his regime will continue working and supporting regional authorities, in order to move the Southern city forward.
"As a nationalist administration, we attempted to start transforming the country, bring modernity not only to Lima, Arequipa and every capital, but also to every province and district [...]," the top official said.
Likewise, Mr. Humala explained the current administration takes into consideration budget-related requests by local authorities.
"We will help [Arequipa region] governor and mayors to continue making progress. Arequipa is considered Peru's and Southern Macroregion's development engine," he stressed.
Remarks were made during the inauguration ceremony of improvement works on the Atico artisanal fishing port.
Works entailed an investment worth S/9.43 million (about US$2.86 million). Over 500 fishermen will benefit from this project.
